Veterans Apprenticeship
and On-The-Job Training


Program Description - The National Apprenticeship Program is designed to promote, improve, and expand industrial apprenticeship training. The length of apprenticeship training varies from two to six years, depending on the trade and standards adopted by the industry.

Services Provided - On-the-job training is carried out step-by-step under the close supervision of a skilled craftsman. Starting wages begin at one half that of a fully-trained craftsman and advance every six months until training is completed and a full journeyman's wage is received.

Program Description - This program assists eligible veterans and certain wives, widows, and children in attaining a co-educational objective. Eligible persons may receive a training allowance from the Veterans Affairs to supplement their wages while learning a new skill or trade, thereby increasing their financial security and job stability during the training period.

Services Provided - The training establishment (employer) provides an approved training program that will qualify the veteran or eligible person for the job for which he is being trained. On-the-job training lasts from six to twenty-four months. Apprenticeship training is for two years or longer.

Program Approval - Programs of Education or Training must be approved by the License Division of the Commission on Higher Education prior to the payment of benefits to veterans or other persons entitled to receive education assistance from the VA.
