The Federal
Government, through the Veterans Affairs, provides assistance to eligible veterans and
certain wives, widows and children of veterans in receiving benefits of a higher education
and assists such persons in attaining the vocational and educational status which they
might normally have inspired to and obtained, had they not served their Country and/or
lost their lives or become permanently or totally disabled.

Colleges and Universities
Program Description - Post-secondary degree programs are offered at all
South Carolina Colleges and Universities.
Services Provided - All campuses in South Carolina welcome veterans. Most
of them have designated staff members to assist veterans.

can be obtained by writing to the Director of Admissions of the Institution of interest.

Community Education
Program Description - Community Education programs are available through
local school districts, technical colleges, vocational rehabilitation centers, and many
other institutions and agencies.
Programs are designed to allow adults to earn a state high school diploma, to prepare to
pass the High School Equivalency Test (G.E.D), or to meet individual needs for upgrading
educational levels.
Services Provided - Adults in occupational training programs may receive
needed communication and computational skills to meet established educational achievement
levels required to be eligible for certain jobs.

Occupational Education
Program Description - High School/Occupational Training is available in
Agriculture, Office Occupations, Distribution and Marketing, Health Occupations, Home
Economics, and Trades and Industries.
Services Provided - The High School/Occupational Training Program is
available for all persons who need and can profit from classroom and laboratory experience
and can become employable after the training program.

Vocational Rehabilitation
Program Description - The Program of Vocational Rehabilitation provides a
wide range of services for the individual who is disabled as the result of a physical or
mental impairment and who shows sufficient potential to benefit from services and become
employed. Veterans may be eligible for selected services that do not duplicate those
provided by the Veterans Affairs.
Services Provided - Rehabilitation counseling and guidance, diagnostic
and evaluation services, physical restoration, artificial appliances, training, placement,
and follow-up services to see that the individual is rendered able to adjust in
employment.

Technical Education
Program Description - The South Carolina Technical and Comprehensive
Education System, with its 16 technical colleges, is the state's largest post-high school
educational system. These colleges offer certificates, one- and two-year education and
training programs in Business, Health, Industrial, and Engineering Technology fields. The
technical colleges also offer numerous short-term, day and evening programs for updating
and upgrading skills of persons who are already employed or who are seeking employment.
Many of the technical college courses also transfer to area senior colleges and
universities.
