We have all heard the
term “green” applied to may things, but what about jobs? What is
a green job? What education is needed to hold a green job?
What wages do people who work in green jobs receive?
Because green
technology is still developing, the nature of green jobs is
still being researched. As a starting point, please take a look
the potential list of green jobs for South Carolina. It is a
starting point for learning about green jobs and the list will
continue to change and evolve. The PowerPoint presentation was
given at the 2009 Education and Business Summit held in
Greenville, SC in June. Also please take a look at our Green
Jobs flyer that is an excellent tool for a first look at what is
considered green jobs and is especially useful for students.

What
Are Green Jobs?
Jobs that preserve or enhance the quality of the environment or
make our country more energy efficient are known as “green jobs.”
These jobs have a great future in our country and our state. This
publication describes jobs in fields such as solar power, biofuels,
wind power, mass transit and retrofitting, and also includes the
wage and educational needs for the selected green jobs. Double-sided

Factors Impacting the Labor Market in 2008
The chartroom contains measurements of various labor market
indicators. Also, additional measurements influencing employment
levels in the state and nationally are charted. This data is
published from various sources including the US Bureau of Labor
Statistics and the US Census Bureau.
Regional Wage Information
The data contained within the
Regional Wage Information document provides estimated employment,
entry hourly wage, mean hourly wage, experienced hourly wage, and
mean annual wage broken down by occupational title.
