The National Association of State Workforce Agencies (NASWA) is pleased to invite you to the Annual 2008 Conference in Charleston, South Carolina.  The annual conference is an invaluable forum to share innovative ideas, policies and best practices that can be applied to your own circumstances and used to improve services in your home states. 

NASWA is a national organization of state administrators of unemployment insurance laws, employment services, training programs, employment statistics and labor market information and other programs and services provided through publicly-funded state workforce systems. Members include representatives of all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico.  The mission of NASWA is to strengthen the National Workforce Development System through intelligent information exchange, liaison and advocacy.    

Charleston, SC: Top Ten City!

Charleston, South Carolina remains one of the best-preserved cities in America's Old South. It boasts 73 pre-Revolutionary War buildings, 136 from the late 18th century, and more than 600 built before the 1840s. With its cobblestone streets and horse-drawn carriages, Charleston is a place of visual images and sensory pleasures. Charleston has been named one of the “Top Cities in the United States & Canada” according to Travel + Leisure Magazine’s tenth annual World’s Best Poll (August 2007 issue). Charleston joins New York, San Francisco, Chicago, Santa Fe, Quebec City, Vancouver, Montreal, Victoria and Seattle on the magazine’s list of 2007’s Ten Best Destinations in the United States and Canada.   

The Historic Francis Marion Hotel

The Francis Marion Hotel, located in the heart of historic Charleston, South Carolina, was the     largest and grandest in the Carolinas when it opened in 1924. Named for General Francis Marion, the "Swamp Fox" of the American Revolution, the Francis Marion Hotel in Charleston re-opened in 1996 after a $12 million National Trust award-winning restoration, and is once again Charleston's Grand Hotel.

Succession Planning Training:

 In addition to the conference, a training session with Sandra Hastings, an affiliate of Greg Newton Associates, on Succession Planning will be offered. The training, entitled Human Resources in the Workforce Development System: Preparing for the Future will be offered on Monday, September 15, 2008, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. in the Pickney Room at the Francis Marion Hotel.

The training is offered for an additional fee of $300. Please note this training is offered to employees of NASWA members ONLY and only the first 40 applicants can be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. Please click here for more information about this training
