UI Benefit Department Organization

The UI Benefit Department is responsible for processing all unemployment insurance claims filed by the claimant or the employer. All determinations of unemployment insurance eligibility and employer charging are issued by the UI Benefit Department. The Benefit Department is located in the Robert E. David Building in Columbia, South Carolina.

The Nonmonetary Section makes determinations of eligibility on unemployment insurance claims based on separation information provided by the employer and the claimant.

The Validation Section verifies employer liability on unemployment insurance claims and is responsible for all correspondence concerning the quarterly employer charge statements.

The Claims Control Section processes all weekly unemployment insurance claims filed by an employer during a week of reduced hours or short-term business closure. Claims may be filed by magnetic tape, PC diskettes or by form UCB 114.
