General Information
The objectives of the employment security program, which include
unemployment insurance and the state-operated public employment services, are:
- To assist in the prompt employment of persons seeking work and to assist employers in
obtaining the best qualified employees.
- To lighten the burden of economic hardship which so often falls on the unemployed worker
and his family.
- To stabilize purchasing power and thus halt the spread of unemployment.
- Lesson the need for public relief and charity.
To accomplish these objectives, the Employment Security Commission:
- Aids in developing opportunities in participation in community planning groups and
by furnishing comprehensive information on labor supply and demand, and related
labor market developments.
- Maintains a Statewide system of public employment service offices where job seekers and
employers may be brought together.
- Pays unemployment insurance benefits to persons who are unemployed and who meet the
eligibility requirements of the Law.
