General Information

The objectives of the employment security program, which include unemployment insurance and the state-operated public employment services, are:

  1. To assist in the prompt employment of persons seeking work and to assist employers in obtaining the best qualified employees.
  2. To lighten the burden of economic hardship which so often falls on the unemployed worker and his family.
  3. To stabilize purchasing power and thus halt the spread of unemployment.
  4. Lesson the need for public relief and charity.

To accomplish these objectives, the Employment Security Commission:

  1. Aids in developing opportunities in participation in community planning groups and by  furnishing comprehensive information on labor supply and demand, and related labor market developments.
  2. Maintains a Statewide system of public employment service offices where job seekers and employers may be brought together.
  3. Pays unemployment insurance benefits to persons who are unemployed and who meet the eligibility requirements of the Law.
